Small Charming Italian Towns – Civita Bagnoregio

We just got home from a fabulous vacation. We landed in Rome, then did a road trip up to Florence. From there we flew to Barcelona then onto some charming small towns of Catalan, Spain. The whole trip took 3 weeks and it was spectacular.

After our 4 days in Rome we grabbed a car from the Rome airport. Here was our itinerary from Rome to Florence exploring some very charming small towns.

First stop was [Read more…]

5 Tips to Planning the Perfect Road Trip in Europe and Beyond

5-tips to planning the perfect european road trip

We just did a trip in Italy and Spain in which we discovered and enjoyed some beautiful small charming towns. From Instagram to Facebook all my friends were asking me,  “How did you even find these little towns?” Well I wish I could say I have this great method, but instead it’s just happy accidents. I will show you 5 ways I stumble upon these happy accidents that end up [Read more…]

The Cotswold Really Are That Charming!

Everything is so charming in Stow on the Wold

We did a driving vacation from Glasgow, Scotland to London, England. We made a few stops along the way, but our most favorite stop was in the Cotswolds. Before we actually drove into the Cotswolds we stopped at Cheltenham. We stopped to get coffee and maybe ask for some suggestions. We didn’t have a place to stay, we thought we would just hope for something special. I had found a few places on [Read more…]

Making the Most of Rome, Italy

Colosseum

I think we left part of our hearts in Rome. We kind of went in not expecting to love the big city. But Rome is so different, especially old town Rome, which is where you want to be anyways.

We stayed in an AirBnB, very close to the Pantheon.  Just outside was a Piazza and we would watch it go from a farmers market in the morning to restaurants at night. There was always something to watch in our little Piazza. It just made the whole experience that much more charming.

Making The Most Of An Adventure To Rome, Italy

Rome Italy Flag

Rome is a city that has been on our list for a long long time. This year, we’re finally taking the plunge and heading to Italy, with Rome being on both ends of the trip. We’re looking forward to making the most of one of the oldest cities in the world, and hoping to take it all in. This will serve as a starter guide for planning our trip, and possibly give you some things to think about when planning your own trip to Rome.

How To Get There

The hardest part about any trip outside the United States (or whatever your home country happens to be) is finding flights. Rome happens to be a pretty easy place to get to with direct flights from all over the U.S. on multiple airlines. In our case, we had fairly specific dates we wanted to travel, along with Delta miles I wanted to use. I had read about Alitalia Magnifica Business Class on ThePointsGuy.com (read the post here: Alitalia Flight Review) and have been wanting to try their product. We booked an [Read more…]

Amsterdam

Dancing House Amsterdam

The biggest reason we chose to go to Amsterdam was the direct flight from Portland, OR to Amsterdam. Once you are in Amsterdam you must look around, right?

Here are a few things you need to know about Amsterdam if you are maybe uneasy about traveling to a foreign country. [Read more…]

Berlin

Sunset over Germany

Sunset over Germany

Berlin is one huge city, but at the same time not so huge. Hard to explain. We rode the ungrounded a lot because the U2 was right out the door of our hotel, but we also realized what was 2 underground stops away was just under a mile away. It really felt like you were going to much farther.

We bought the ABC pass for 5 days and it was unlimited and could be used for buses, trams, trains and underground. If Berlin has it, it’s included. Don’t use the sightseeing buses, use public transportation.

My tip within a tip: [Read more…]

Prague

Prague at Night never gets old

I could wander the streets of Prague all night long. So incredibly beautiful.

I had very fond memories of Prague from 20 years ago. We had actually been twice and each time was quite the adventure. Think small winding streets with no GPS. Finding the place you had rented, from a shack about 20-40 minutes out of town, was not as easy to find as one might think. One time we got there after dark and trying to read a map and maneuver the streets took us over an hour to find our room. This time was much easier.

I was so eager to get back and experience it all over again, except this time…in Spring. We really did do all the touristy things, but I loved it.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Beautiful Rothenburg Germany

Beautiful Rothenburg Germany

Out of all the places we visited on our Central European Driving Vacation this was our favorite place. I know kind of crazy that we would choose a small, very small, town over some of the beautiful big cities we encountered, but the slower pace won us over. Like many places on this trip, this was not our first time visiting this city. When we lived in Germany this was one of those places we would take friends when they came from the states because it’s that fabulous. One thing we had never done was [Read more…]

Cesky Krumlov

Things to do in Cesky Krumlov

Things To Do In Cesky Krumlov?

  • Stroll through the streets and enjoy plenty of shopping.
  • Visit the Cesky Krumlov Castle and even tour the tower
  • Look for the bears in the Bear moat surrounding the castle.
  • Eat Trdelnik
  • There are a few museums, but we did everything that was free and loved that you could pretty much wander where ever you wanted.
  • There is no shortage of places to eat, but we were not there for a meal, only Trdelnik.

I had two friends tell me we needed to stop here as we were planning our trip. Turns out we were driving right by on our Central Europe trip, so it was perfect. Plus it was a great way to break up our driving day from Linz, Austria up to Prague. Even after all they had told me, I still wasn’t prepared for what we saw. It’s like a fairy tale town. The buildings have their architecture painted on and the castle is complete with a bear moat. The streets were very small, the doorways are short and when we were there we had the place nearly to ourselves as the weather was not the best. We layered up and took it all in anyways.
