I love this city. It’s such a great place to vacation. They have so much to offer including lots and lots of great places to eat. And let me be honest, we pretty much ate our way through Seattle. Most places we went to were crowded and I am a shy girl and hate to pull out my camera to take pictures, but I will let you know what we ate and what we thought anyways. We had already done the Seattle Underground a few years back. We have also did the the Space Needle at that time too. Read on to find out how to get around Seattle without a car. It’s so easy. We are spending a day in Seattle. The whole trip is based around us taking our daughter and a friend on a college visit. Since we lived in Portland we thought we would ride the train.
Did you know that Amtrak offers discounts for college visits? Yep, it’s true. We got a Buy One get One 50% off. With the cost of gas going up, this will save us money, plus we can all take advantage of the 3+ hour drive from Portland to Seattle. I have never taken the train, so I am excited about this adventure. [Read more…]
This was such a fun tour that we did. My kids do NOT like museums and tours and all that stuff because it ends up being a lot of talking and very little looking, or so it seems to them. Here I am a grown adult and there are days I don’t want to listen to anyone blabber I just want to look around.
The thing I LOVE about the Seattle Underground is every tour guide seems to be a [Read more…]
We have had a ton of rain this winter and spring. So finding something to do in Portland when it’s raining has been high on our list. Here is a list of 20 plus things you can do in Portland when it’s raining. [Read more…]
I wish I could say the reason I haven’t posted in awhile is because I have been off traveling, but it’s not true. We have just been getting settled into the school routine, but I did want to share the trip my husband and son took to In-n-Out. That’s right they drive 6 hours, grab a burger, see some sights, grab a burger and come home. They drive from Portland, Oregon to Redding, California just for In-n-Out Burger.
This is the 2nd year they have done it. This year they stopped in the Redwoods. [Read more…]
I often show you Groupons as great ideas for getaways or even to watch in cities you might be visiting in the future. They offer everything from food, to spas to touristy things to do.
This weekend we finally cashed in one of our Groupons and went out on the town for the afternoon. The best part was, even though we were in our city, it felt kind of like a vacation. We don’t normally do touristy things in our city. I should say, we never do touristy things, and renting a pedicab in the city, felt like a touristy thing to do.
Thanks to PDX Pedicab we had a great time being biked from distillery to distillery sampling some great vodka, gin and even some sake.
There are so many things you can do for a fraction of the price in your city that you need to take advantage of. I know my friend in San Diego took her mom on tour with these mini cars you rent. She said it was a blast. Another time she took her son on a 2 hour Segway tour.
Not going anywhere, that’s fine. Watch for great Staycation ideas in your city.
Hood River is the Windsurfing Capital of the World, but it’s also very romantic. If you want to get away there a few things that must not be missed. To start you MUST stay at the Villas of Columbia Hotel Gorge. HERE is how we got great pricing and upgrades. The view was amazing, relaxing and beyond romantic.
The grounds at the Columbia Gorge Hotel are beyond romantic, as they are the settings to many weddings. From the pictures you can see why. What I never knew is hidden on the hillside is this beautiful [Read more…]
Day 1 -Today I am working on our 20 year anniversary trip that we will be taking. Most people at this point do really big trips or re new their vows. I actually wanted to do both, but because of my surgery and the cost of it, we will try and do an amazing trip, close to home on a budget.
My hope is to stay at the Columbia River Gorge Hotel or Bonneville Hot Springs. Let’s see if I can pull this off with a very small price tag. We have chose this location for 2 reasons. 1) It’s only a little over an hour away and 2)I have always wanted to spend some time in Hood River. It’s an up and coming food, wine and beer mecca and I want to experience it, all of it. Often times the best places for people to vacation are right in your backyard, but we all choose to fly to someplace better. Well, not this time. [Read more…]
Truth is there are more than 5 easy hikes, but these are super easy to get to, and they are all very close together on the Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway. As with most hiking in Oregon you can choose to go farther at nearly every stop. Got to love Oregon.
Our Day trip started out at Crown Point, this can be easily accessed (if leaving Portland and heading East) by taking the Corbet Exit.
Crown Point has a great view, but be warned it’s very windy up there. We stopped for a moment just to take in the view. Luckily the visitor center was open and we were able to look from there. We were then given this nifty map of all the Falls that were to follow. [Read more…]
